Beauty Tips & Tricks

All the beauty advice you'll ever need for a more fabulous, sexy you!

When all else fails (or you just can't be bothered), think easy-breazy up-do. Tousled, just-swam buns look gorgeous and lift hair off your neck. Decorate with a bright, clip-on bloom by day, and sparkles by night for added glam.

Since hair grows at the roots by about a centimetre a month, a regrowth application should be done once every five weeks. Simply apply colour on roots and leave for about 20 minutes. Then apply the remaining colour to the rest of your hair and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse out, apply the after-colour conditioner, and dry and style hair as usual.

The new generation of longer lasting, or tone-on-tone, semi-permanents not only gives you natural colour for up to six weeks, it also infuses hair with nourishment, body and shine.

Run out of styling créme? Try this trick. Just rub a little face or body lotion into your palms, smooth through your hair and style. It's best for those with cropped or curly curls.

Coloured hair is particularly vulnerable to the ravages of summer. Protect your hair with colour-protecting hair products that are nourishing and packed with UV filters. This way the colour won't fade between touch-ups.

Before taking curling tongs to dry hair, give your locks a light mist of conditioning spray or leave-in conditioner to make them less vulnerable to heat damage.

Sumptuous summertime hair means two things: nourishment and protection. For locks to stay silky all season long, you must keep them well-hydrated and fully shielded from the effects of sun and salt water.

Hair is generally oilier in summer because the heat stimulates the sebaceous (oil-producing) glands in your scalp. You can combat oily hair by washing it in tepid water and applying conditioner just to the ends. Use a shampoo and conditioner for oily or fine hair.

A clarifying shampoo should be an essential addition to your shower shelf during summer. Just as an intensive hair treatment acts like a hydrating mask, a clarifying - or cleansing - shampoo is like a purifying mask, getting rid of dirt and product build-up.

If you have damaged hair, avoid using cheap brushes and combs. Quality tools have better bristles and are more gentle.
