Skin Stress 5: Sensitivity
Skin sensitivity is on the rise – and no prizes for guessing the No.1 culprit. Yep, stress. Amber Belden, national therapy trainer at Jurlique, estimates that a whopping 20 per cent of skins can be classified as sensitive – a group that includes both those born with sensitive skin and people who have developed environmentally-sensitised skin.

In both cases, a sensitive skin-specific natural-based complexion care range is advised. “You need products that are designed to help strengthen and desensitise the skin,” says Belden, who recommends a soothing serum or oil, and a repairing moisturiser as the two key buys. The products to avoid: anything over-stimulating, such as granular scrubs, and treatments containing strong active ingredients. She does, however, caution those with genetically sensitive skin to still expect some skin stress.

She also urges a diet overhaul. “There are so many chemicals in our food… our system is only designed to put up with so much.”
